Seahawks host Packers in NFL season opener

Super Bowl champions the Seattle Seahawks will kick off the 2014-15 NFL season, when they host the Green Bay Packers. The fixture - released on Wednesday - sees the Packers travel to take on the defending champions for a third straight season, however, redemption for an infamous loss will be on the cards for Mike McCarthy's men. Green Bay suffered a 14-12 loss to Seattle in September 2012, with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson throwing a Hail Mary pass in the dying seconds - which was caught jointly by Seattle's Golden Tate and Green Bay's MD Jennings. Amid contradictory calls from referees at the ground, the decision was eventually made to award the touchdown and consequently victory to Seattle. McCarthy was looking forward to the season opener on September 4. "It's a tremendous opportunity for our football team," he said. "We have experience playing in the kickoff opener three years ago, and we will draw on that. "Obviously, being the visiting team this time presents new challenges. It will help sharpen our focus even more during training camp and the preseason." Three games will be hosted in London, with the Miami Dolphins taking on the Oakland Raiders, the Atlanta Falcons playing the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys going head-to-head with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Seahawks and Denver Broncos will play their Super Bowl XLVIII rematch on September 21 in Seattle. Legendary quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady will go head-to-head on November 2, when Brady's New England Patriots host Manning's Broncos. Brady will be looking to improve on his 10 wins in 14 matches when matched up against Manning. The Lions, the Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers will all host matches on Thanksgiving, against the Chicago Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Seahawks respectively.
