Seahawks´ defence helping Wilson improve

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson says training against the number one NFL defence has set him up for Sunday's Super Bowl. The Seahawks have conceded an average of just 273.6 yards and 14.4 points per game this season to be ranked first in the NFL for defence ahead of Super Bowl XLVIII in New York. Seattle's defensive ranking and the fact they are sixth for offence and Wilson is the ninth ranked QB for passing has led some pundits to question the Seahawks quarterback's importance to his team's success. But Wilson said that by coming up against Seattle's defence every week in training, he is ready to perform against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. "In terms of having the number one defence, that's a great thing to have, especially playing the quarterback position," the 25-year-old said on Tuesday. "Being able to go against them, it's only my second year but to be able to go against our guys on a daily basis, to go against Richard Sherman, to go against Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Byron Maxwell, our defensive line and linebackers, it helps me improve." Wilson passed for 3,357 yards during the regular season, well behind Denver's Peyton Manning (5,477), who was ranked top for passing yards. The Broncos' QB has been Wilson's idol for a long time with the 2012 NFL Rookie of the Year having famously attended the Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana while in high school. The Cincinnati-born playmaker cannot wait to face Manning in a season-deciding match. "He's built this unbelievable legacy and he's one of the best if not the best quarterback to ever play the game and one day I want to be like him in the way he thinks - the way he's just a master of the game," Wilson said. "I am working to get there, on a constant quest for knowledge. "I have great memories of being in 10th grade and going to his passing academy and just learning from him and that was one of the better experiences of my life. "Obviously this will be a big game and it will be a great moment."
