Proteas reach semi-finals, England eliminated

South Africa joined India in the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals with a three-run win over England, which eliminates Stuart Broad's side. The Proteas posted an intimidating 196-5 from their 20 overs, giving England a mountain to climb for a second successive game. England successfully chased 190 down to beat Sri Lanka on Thursday and breathe life into their campaign, but they fell short in Chittagong. Hashim Amla (56) and AB de Villiers (69 not out) made half-centuries for South Africa, with the bowling of Jade Dernbach particularly targeted as he conceded 44 runs from only three overs without taking a wicket. England's hero against Sri Lanka, Alex Hales, made a whirlwind 38 before chipping to deep cover, with Ravi Bopara's late knock of 31 in vain.
