First-quarter blitz sees Wizards crush Miami


A stunning first quarter propelled the Washington Wizards to a 114-97 win over the Miami Heat in the NBA on Wednesday.
The Wizards went on a 20-0 run in the first period to sprint to a huge 43-18 lead at the first break before leading by as much as 34 points in the second quarter.
Staring down the barrel of their third consecutive loss, the Heat dragged the margin back to nine points near the end of the third quarter but they could not reduce it any further.
John Wall (25 points) was the star for the Wizards with strong contributions from Nene and Bradley Beal (both 19).

Chris Bosh was Miami's top scorer with 26 points with LeBron James shooting 25 points while Dwayne Wade (eight) struggled with 4-from-11 shooting.
The Denver Nuggets pulled off a road-trip upset with a 123-116 at the Golden State Warriors.
After having a five day rest, the Warriors were hot favourites to win at home but they were shocked by an in-form Denver offense that saw four players - Nate Robinson, Ty Lawson, Wilson Chandler and Randy Foye - score 20-plus points.
Robinson hit 16 of his 24 points in a match-winning last quarter as the Warriors clawed their way to 116-115 lead before the Nuggets eased away to secure the win.
The Houston Rockets only led for just over one minute of their match against the New Orleans Pelicans, which also included at the final buzzer as they pinched a 103-100 win.
Houston guard James Harden shot 26 points including the match-winner and 18 in the second half as the Rockets won their third game in a row.
Rudy Gay's 33 points led the Sacramento Kings to an upset 111-108 win at the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Los Angeles Clippers prevailed at home in a high-scoring 129-127 thriller over the Dallas Mavericks.
It took until triple overtime to find a winner as the Chicago Bulls shaded the Orlando Magic 128-125.
In Wednesday's other matches, the Philadelphia 76ers outlasted the Charlotte Bobcats 95-92, the Memphis Grizzlies won 82-77 on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns overcame the Los Angeles Lakers 121-114.
The Boston Celtics survived a late comeback to deny the Toronto Raptors 88-83, the Portland Trailblazers comfortably accounted for the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-96 and the San Antonio Spurs shaded the Utah Jazz 109-105.
