Ivanovic stuns Williams in Melbourne

Ana Ivanovic had never won a set against Serena Williams in her career until Sunday. She has now won two, and with them came the upset of this year's Australian Open, and a place in the women's quarter-finals. Ivanovic was a returning machine in a stunning 4-6 6-3 6-3 fourth round knockout of the tournament's top seed, world number one and 17-time grand slam singles winner at Melbourne Park. Villain of the piece in her third-round win over Australian Sam Stosur, Ivanovic got nothing but love from the Rod Laver Arena crowd on Sunday, and nothing but quality on her returns from the booming groundstrokes of Williams. Williams won the opening set, coming back from a break down to beat Ivanovic and suggest the likely script would be adhered to. But the Serbian took the second set, and an early break in the third. Then she kept her nerve, and critically her serve to win through to the final eight. As Williams struggled with her backhand, Ivanovic kept up the quality, and also rode a little bit of luck.
