Larrazabal wins in Abu Dhabi

Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal fired a last-round 67 to claim a one-shot win at the European Tour's Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Larrazabal saved his best round for last, carding six birdies on the final day of play at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club on Sunday. That gave him an overall score of 14 under, enough to see him edge American Phil Mickelson and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, who tied for second. The 30-year-old's third career win on the European Tour will move him from a world ranking of 103 to a place inside the top 55, and he was elated afterwards. "I beat two of the three most talented guys in my era," Larrazabal said. "It feels great. Only me and my team know how much we've worked during the last three years. "The birdie at 13 gave me the confidence to keep it going and I hit great shots coming in. The five wood at 18 is maybe the best shot of my golfing career." Larrazabal's excellent effort on the final hole allowed him to shoot another birdie, as Mickelson was made to rue a late triple-bogey. The left-hander, who finished with three birdies in the last five holes, needed seven shots on the par-four 13th - a blemish that would ultimately cost him victory. Mickelson - who hit a stunning 63 on Saturday - finished with a three-under 69 for the day, while McIlroy's 68 also saw him fall short. South African George Coetzee and Spain's Rafael Cabrera-Bello tied for fourth at 12 under, two shots adrift of the winner, while Joost Luiten of the Netherlands ended sixth at 10 under. Scotsman Craig Lee had a day to forget, as the overnight leader plunged down the leaderboard with a poor final round of 77. Lee hit three bogeys and one double-bogey and finished in a nine-way tie for 10th.
